At What Age Should My Child Start Orthodontic Treatment?
According to the American Association of Orthodontists all children should have an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7. By this age the teeth have developed enough to where abnormalities in the bite can be observed. In most cases early intervention can prevent severe problems from developing in the future. With this being said…timing is important! Each person has an ideal window of time to begin orthodontic treatment. This of course is dependent upon several factors, such as severity of the bite or malocclusion, amount of growth remaining or growth potential, and believe it or not maturity level of the patient. Orthodontists have the expertise to determine when the timing is right. By bringing your child in sooner, rather than later, you will be able to put your child under the close supervision of a dental professional who can monitor your child’s future orthodontic needs.
