Dr. Oliver is a certified Invisalign® provider and is able to provide her patients with various options for creating beautiful smiles. Invisalign® is an excellent alternative to braces for the ideal patient. With this system, custom-made clear aligner trays are fabricated from impressions of the teeth. Patients are then able to take the aligners home with special instructions that must be followed. Each set of aligners are worn for 2 weeks at a time, only removing them to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As each new set are worn, treatment progresses, and the teeth will move little by little, week by week until they have straightened to the final position that Dr. Oliver has prescribed.
Since the aligners are removable, Invisalign® patients do not have the same eating restrictions as do patients with braces and maintaining good oral hygiene is not an issue. On the contrary, patients who choose to go this route must be disciplined enough to wear the aligners as prescribed or treatment will not progress. Simply put: Invisalign® is a wires-free, more comfortable, and less hassle-prone experience for patients who would like to straighten their teeth.
Invisalign® Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will Invisalign® Treatment be painful?
A: While Invisalign® moves teeth without the use of metal braces, some people experience temporary discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new set of aligners. This feeling of pressure is normal and is it occurs as the teeth move to their final destination. This discomfort typically goes away after a few days.
Q: Is treatment with Invisalign® faster than with traditional braces?
A: It truly depends on the severity of the case that is being treated. The average number of aligners is between 18 and 30 and the average treatment time falls between 6-15 months.
Q: How frequent are orthodontic visits while in Invisalign® treatment?
A: Typically patients are seen every 8-10 weeks.
Q: Can I chew gum while wearing aligners?
A: No. Unfortunately the gum will stick to the aligners. We recommend removing the aligners for all meals and snacks.
